Grassland Biome Description

Geographic Distributions

Grassland biomes are rather large. They also include rolling terrains of grasses along with flowers and herbs. What determines which kinds of plants grow in a particular grassland is normally latitude, soil, and local climate. Central Asia, North America, Australia, Central Europe, and upland plateaus of South America are the places where you will find these grasslands.

 Dominant Flora and Fauna

The Floras and Faunas are fossil floras and mammalian faunas out of the Great Plains that as aridity increased during the Miocene and the Pliocene. Gradually, forests and woodlands were transformed into moister valleys. This took place as grassland spread on the interfluves which were covered earlier with park-like openings.

Abiotic Factors

One of the major future problems for ecologists is to determine how biodiversity dynamics, ecosystem processes, and abiotic factors interact. Some of the Abiotic factors of grasslands are summers that are between warm and hot and cold winters. The precipitation is moderate and seasonal. Grasslands also have fertile soils and occasional fires.
